Prof. Francis Davis from Birmingham University i the UK arrived to Jersey at the beginning of December 2019 to conduct the social research on state of social inclusion of minority communities in Jersey. The research was designed to create a benchmark for the social situation of all minorities living in the Island as a starting point for development of new Caritas projects and reason to develop further co-operation with other charities and Jersey of States.
The aim of the first stage of the research was to collect written questionnaires containing various questions measuring the experience of working and living in the Island. The questionnaires were handed over at Sunday masses to Polish, Portuguese and other minority communities. Altogether there were around 300 questionnaires collected.
The aim of the second stage of the research is to conduct focus groups during which prof Davis was asking in depth questions about experiences of living and working in Jersey.
Caritas Jersey expects that the finalised report will be ready some time around Easter and will provide a valuable insights into how the minorities think about life Jersey offers.
